WHS IB Diploma Programme
Washburn High School recognizes students who enroll in IB courses and sit for IB exams in several ways:
International Baccalaureate Diploma
To be considered a candidate for the IB Diploma, a student must:
Students are awarded the IB Diploma by earning a specified number of points out of a possible 45 through the exams, the extended essay, and TOK.
Points are awarded from 1 to 7 for the IB exams. Up to 3 additional points are awarded depending on the grades achieved on the TOK essay and the extended essay. Candidates must receive a minimum of 24 points or an average of four out of a possible seven points for six subjects. Students are notified if they have been awarded the Diploma in July after graduation.

A student who...
International Baccalaureate Diploma

- Take courses and IB exams in 3 Higher Level (HL) subjects and 3 Standard Level (SL) subjects
- Complete the Extended Essay
- Complete Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
- Complete Washburn’s Creativity, Activity, Service, (CAS) Programme

Medallion
To earn this recognition at graduation, students will...
- Complete two IB courses, including the exams during their Junior and
- Senior year. These can be either HL or SL courses
- Successfully complete TOK.
- Successfully complete 75 hours of the CAS requirements.
A student who...
- Sits for examinations for one or more DP exams, or
- Has attempted a full diploma with partial success, receives the “Diploma Programme (DP) Courses Results,” commonly known as the “IB Certificate”.
