Washburn High School is happy to collaborate with the following community organizations to support our students. Project Success An organization that provides monthly workshops delivered within English classes for students in grades 9-12. Additionally, Project Success provide low or no cost college tours. Educational Talent Search (ETS) A federally-funded TRIO program, sponsored by St. Olaf College that meets with students during school in grades 9-12 approximately once a month. ETS college prep services include exploration, college visits, financial aid and connection to summer enrichment opportunities. To qualify to be a part of ETS, a student needs to be on free/reduced lunch or be a 1st generation college student. To join, find out more information in the College & Career Center. College Club Run by St. Olaf Admissions Counselors, they meet monthly with students to discuss the college process and college life. More information available in the counseling office. All students welcome. Upward Bound A federally-funded TRIO program sponsored by Normandale Community College to assist students with maximizing their academic potential. Students are expected to attend once a week after school tutoring sessions, monthly saturday academies and a 6 week summer program. Students enter in the 9th grade. To qualify to be a part of Upward Bound, a student needs to be on free/reduced lunch or be a 1st generation college student. To join, find out more information in the College & Career Center. Connecting Parents to Educational Opportunities (CPEO) Sponsored by the Office of Family Engagement, CPEO is a seven-week program designed to help families understand the high school process from 9th grade through the college search. It is designed to eliminate barriers to student achievement and engage parents in the learning process. Classes are presented in English, Somali and Spanish. Classes begin October 31 and continues until December 19. Open to all 9th grade families; register here. Streetworks/Hope Street An agency that provides support for runaway/homeless/ at risk youth. Support includes: locating short-term shelter and transitional housing as well as food, clothing, transportation and medical assistance. Serving youth aged 16-20.
